As a way to facilitate learning and collaboration within the EUROSUNMED project, one of the project partners, SINTEF (Norway), has established an open source software tool called PowerGAMA for analysis of future scenarios with large-scale integration of renewable energy in interconnected power systems.

PowerGAMA is a Python-based lightweight simulation tool that optimises generation dispatch for each time-step over a given period, taking into account the variability of renewable power and demand, and using linearised power flow equations to determine power flow in the grid. Flexible generation and demand may be included by means of energy storage.  A reasonable utilisation of such energy storage is ensured through the use of storage values.
